Church volunteers had heart but underestimated the time and effort needed to restore this old manse’s entry door.

Unfortunately, the primed surface was inadequately sanded and cleaned, and had to be re-stripped. Several moldings were also significantly damaged during the restoration attempt.

The process included careful stripping, sanding, and replacing the damaged moldings with matching custom-made moldings. The bright brass mail slot was aged to blend with the door knob and the white handrail was painted black for contrast.

A cut coat of boiled linseed oil was applied before applying oil-based primer. Top-coated with a high-quality exterior acrylic paint.
